I went to New College of California, School of Law, motivated by the idea of serving others, helping them find their voice, and finding solutions to their challenges. As a lawyer in California, I litigated primarily family law and personal injury cases. For 11 years, I represented families and individuals of varying background, culture, or socioeconomic status, and counseled them through difficult and emotional moments in their lives. Through my work, I developed a strong interest in diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice.
I eventually realized that an aspect of lawyering that resonated with me most was counseling. I thrived in helping individuals and families navigate complicated relationships, in retelling their heartfelt stories in the way that made them feel most heard and understood, as well as in collaborating with them or other professionals to achieve favorable outcomes. I decided then to shift my focus towards my strengths and relocated with my family. Shortly after being admitted to the Oregon State Bar, I joined the OAAP staff in 2018.
As part of my counseling journey, I completed my MA in Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling at George Fox University, a program designed to prepare me for dual licensure as a professional counselor, and a marriage and family therapist. My ongoing training affords me the lens to view people and their challenges in the context of the systems in which they function (e.g. work, home, community, or other institutions). It is through this lens I am able to see that the way we relate and communicate influence and shape our identities as well as our ability to adapt, grow and transform from our struggles. I truly believe we are at our best when we can cultivate positive, meaningful relationships to ourselves, to others, and to the world around us.
As an Attorney Counselor, I strive to strengthen social relationships, bring harmony to personal and professional lives, and promote well-being. It gives me great pleasure to be of service to others in this capacity, and I would be honored to offer you my support.
